Insurance companies are becoming increasingly vigilant with respect to custom foot orthotic claims.  As such, they have implemented a list of approved prescribers and providers:

Limiting custom foot orthotic prescription and provision to the professional designations above offers clarity to members of the general public as to who is qualified to produce and dispense custom foot orthotics. All of the clinicians at the Ottawa Orthotic Lab are Canadian Certified Pedorthists and as such our processes (assessment, casting and manufacturing) are all insurance industry approved.

Will this be covered by my insurance benefits?

Many insurance plans have coverage for the services and products provided by Canadian Certified Pedorthists. The amount of coverage is dependent upon your specific insurance policy. Please review your insurance plan or speak to your insurance provider to determine the amount of coverage you have for products or services provided by a Canadian Certified Pedorthist. Your pedorthist will provide you with all of the paperwork required by your insurance provider including a detailed invoice for services rendered, gait analysis and biomechanical report.

Individual provinces also have programs in place through WCB/Work Safe and social assistance for patients that qualify. Check with your individual provincial regulations for more information.

What is a Canadian Certified Pedorthist?

Canadian Certified Pedorthists – C. Ped (C) – are foot orthotic and orthopaedic footwear experts. They are one of the few healthcare professionals trained in the assessment of lower limb anatomy and biomechanics. Canadian Certified Pedorthists undergo a rigorous education and training process in order to become certified by The College of Pedorthics of Canada.

They work alongside physicians, nurse practitioners and other healthcare providers to alleviate pain, abnormalities and debilitating conditions of the lower limbs and feet. The goal of every Canadian Certified Pedorthists is to help patients achieve and maintain proper foot care and lower limb health so they can live healthy, active lives.

Every patient is unique so there is no hard-and-fast rule for length of treatment. After your initial consultation, your Canadian Certified Pedorthist will be able to provide you with an estimated length and course of treatment.
